Section 9.0 Trophies and Prizes

9.1 GENERAL
​
Trophies are awarded annually to the winners of each major event in the competition calendar. In addition, a number of special awards are made based on a points scoring system.
The winner of each event shall also be given a glass award on the night for photograph purposes which must be returned after the ceremony. The Assistant Equipment Member shall arrange for glass award with the year on to be sent out to winners after the AFI for them to keep.
Prizes, purchased from RAFMAA funds, are allocated based on the support enjoyed by each individual event. This allocation may vary from year to year at the discretion of the Committee.
Full and Associate Members of the RAFMAA gain points which count towards both individual and inter-station awards by entering the events list in the competition calendar.
Points are awarded as follows:
1st 15 points
2nd 12 points
3rd 9 points
4th 6 points
5th 5 points
6th 4 points
7th 3points
8th 2 points
Remainder 1 point (provided an attempt is made to fly)
Return of Trophies. Annual trophy winners are responsible for ensuring that trophies in their care are well looked after and that the trophies are cleaned and returned to the Assistant Equipment Member in time for the following year's prize giving. Top

9.2 SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
​
Victor Ludorum. The Victor Ludorum Trophy is awarded to the competitor judged to be the best all-round modeller. For this purpose, points are totalled from the best 2 achievements in each of the 5 flying disciplines and the best achievement in Concours d'Elegance. The flying disciplines are: R/C Glider.

Indoor
The Thurston Trophy. The Thurston Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Chairman’s Choice event
The Participants' Cup. The John Rumble Trophy is a participation award and is awarded to the contestant who has entered, and attempted to fly in, the greatest number of different classes during a competition year. The trophy will not be awarded to the winner of the Victor Ludorum title.
Best Apprentice / Junior. The Apprentice Shield is awarded to the member, under the age of 18 on the date of the annual prize-giving, who gains the most points during a competition year. Points are awarded as for the Victor Ludorum Trophy. Top
9.3 THERMAL/SLOPE/FREE FLIGHT/R/C POWER/CONTROL LINE/INDOOR CHAMPION.
The title of Champion and the associated trophy for each discipline will be awarded to the contestant who gains the greatest number of points in each discipline during a competition year.
Honorary Members' Trophy. The Watton Cup is a participation award and is awarded to the Honorary member who has entered, and attempted to fly in, the greatest number of different classes during a competition year. Top
9.4 INTER-STATION AWARDS
Inter-Station Winner. The station gaining the highest total number of points during a competition year is awarded the Bob Vian Memorial Trophy.
Inter-Station Runner-Up. The station gaining the second highest total number of points in a competition year is awarded the Inter-Command Trophy. Top
9.5 JOINT RAFMAA / BMFA AWARDS
The following RAFMAA trophies are competed for at joint RAFMAA/Civilian events which are organised by the RAFMAA. The trophies which may be awarded to civilians are as follows:
The RAF Flying Review Trophy. Awarded to the winner of the FAI class F1A (A2 Glider) at the RAFMAA/BMFA Free Flight Meeting.

The RAF Cup. Awarded to the winner of the FAI, class F1C (Power) at the RAFMAA/BMFA Free Flight Meeting. Top
