Annual Fly-In and Power Champs 2024

Our annual Powered Championships and Fly-in, taking place over 5 days at RAF Honington. This year we return to our traditional Wednesday-Sunday schedule too!

What makes the Champs/AFI RAFMAA's event of the year?

Disciplines; Whether you fly free-flight, control line or RC, fixed wing, heli’ or quad, IC, electric or jet, Funfly, 3D or scale you will almost certainly find like-minded enthusiasts to fly with and chat to.

Compete; The competition element is very relaxed with emphasis placed on just having fun and improving your flying skills. If you have never considered flying competitively then you could be missing out on a fantastic aspect of our hobby.

Fly For Fun; If competing isn’t your thing then why not head to the “Off-The-Peg” flight line and engage in some relaxed, club-style flying off the tarmac?

Social; The flying at the Champs is only bettered by the social aspect. Both the beer and banter flow with equal enthusiasm at this event and there will be plenty of opportunity to indulge in a few laughs.

Improve Your Flying; Instructors will be on hand to provide flying advice throughout the week. If you feel like challenging yourself, they can offer you the opportunity to advance with the BMFA Achievement scheme by taking A and B Cert’s. Contact us before the vent at achievementscheme@rafmaa.co.uk to organise this please.

Meet & Greet BBQ; Our Summer BBQ and get-together will be held at the SSA on the evening of DAY 1 at 20:00. Tickets are FOC but let us know you will be there by RSVP'ing so we can get the right amount of food.

Fork Supper; Prior to the awards ceremony on the evening of DAY 4, a sit down dinner will be provided. Attendance at the Fork Supper is expected and dress is smart/formal (collared shirt and shoes). Guests are welcome to attend at this function. Tickets are FOC but it is important that we know how many people to cater for (let us know if for any reason you have to cancel).

Chairman’s Choice Competition 2024; our annual special event comp chosen by the Chairman. TBA (watch this space!)

Duty Status; Event Admin Order available soon to submit to your line management. Service members are reminded that this event holds duty status should they compete in at least one discipline. 

Timings; TBA. A full schedule with timings can be found in the Admin Order which will available closer to the event. Daily flying briefings will be held at 09:00 at the campsite prior to flying commencing. A more detailed schedule will be promulgated closer to the event along with an AGM agenda.

Accomodation; Camping is available within the event HQ compound (more deatils at compsec@rafmaa.co.uk).

Messing; meals may be taken in the junior ranks mess. A kitchen facility is also available at event HQ to prepare meals.

Location; Specific site locations and instructions on how to move around the site will be provided in the event Admin Order (available closer to the event).

Please Note

This event is for RAFMAA Members and invited guests only. If you wish to join us you MUST RSVP to register your attendance. You will be asked to indicate what kind of flying/competing you wish to take part in, before being asked to provide your personal and vehicle details. These details are required in order for us to work out numbers for competitions and importantly  to organise passes and permits for you. When you arrive at RAF Honington, please present yourself to the Main Guardroom where you will be asked to provide photocard ID in order to claim your passes and be allowed access to the unit. As you move around unit, please remember that you are representing your Association.

To avoid disappointment, please be sure to remember photo ID for each attendee.
